  • You Act Like an Owner. You take responsibility for outcomes, step up to challenges, and seek solutions proactively—doing what’s best for the business, not just your role
  • You Think Big and Move Fast. You’re energized by building from 0 to 1. You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo, experiment quickly, and learn as you go
  • You Constantly Learn and Grow. You’re hungry to improve your craft and open to feedback. You bring a growth mindset to everything you do
  • You Raise the Bar. You care about doing things well and efficiently. You balance speed with rigor and always look for ways to improve how we work

  • Strong product instincts and user empathy, with a passion for solving customer pain points through tech
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Exposure to financial operations systems such as GL/accounting integrations, payments infrastructure, expense management, or credit products
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, event-driven systems, and modern security practices
  • Understanding of the Canadian fintech landscape, open banking developments, or regulatory frameworks

What the job involves

  • We’re looking for a Director of Engineering, Emerging Products to lead Float’s most ambitious and exploratory product bets
  • You’ll be at the forefront of 0→1 product development, owning the technical strategy and execution of brand-new product lines that expand Float’s capabilities and customer reach
  • From AI-enhanced spend intelligence, to real-time vendor payments, to automated treasury operations, your work will shape the next generation of financial tools for growing businesses
  • You’ll operate as both a technical strategist and hands-on leader - spinning up teams, validating ideas quickly, and scaling early wins into stable, secure, and scalable products
  • Lead the end-to-end technical development of early-stage fintech products - from concept to MVP to early scale
  • Design systems that prioritize speed, adaptability, and tight integration with core financial workflows
  • Collaborate with product and data teams to embed AI into Float’s new offerings - think AI-assisted transaction categorization, anomaly detection, autonomous policy enforcement, or conversational finance assistants
  • Establish engineering foundations for deploying LLM-based or ML-backed features in production securely and responsibly
  • Build and lead small, cross-functional teams focused on rapid prototyping and delivery
  • Coach engineers to operate with autonomy and velocity while maintaining technical quality and security standards
  • Champion a culture of fast feedback loops, lean experimentation, and continuous customer validation
  • Drive architecture and build decisions across domains like real-time payments, multi-party reconciliation, GL syncing, and embedded finance
  • Collaborate with partners (e.g., card networks, accounting platforms, open banking providers) to integrate external capabilities into Float’s stack
  • Ensure that all systems meet the rigor required for financial compliance, auditability, and trust

Benefits

  • Competitive coverage of medical, dental and vision insurance for employees

  • Flexible vacation time
  • Work from home stipend to help you succeed in a remote environment
