Estimated Probable Duration: Seven (7) Months
Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Outside Unit
Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: Some shift work may be required
Rate of Pay: $37.10 per hour
The start date will follow the selection process.
Characteristic Duties: Under the supervision of a Citywide Superintendent.
- Co-ordinate the activities of the Line Painting crews and the sign shop crews and authorize employee crew cards.
- Assess the work areas and determine which methods/activities are required as per the M.M.M.S. guidelines.
- Provide general supervision and direction of the activities of work crews engaged in line painting operations and activities of the sign shop as per the M.M.M.S. guidelines.
- Meet with Utilities for appropriate locates.
- Maintain control of all sign stock.
- Document all sign installation and maintenance for CGS.
- Meet with departments for various sign installations.
- Monitor the approved budgets for line painting and sign shop activities, reporting any variances to supervision.
- Oversee the 4 x 4 plowing and the bus stop snow removal operations.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:

Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.

Completion of a college diploma in a related field considered an asset.
-
Minimum five (5) years experience with line painting maintenance equipment and activities; and with sign shop maintenance equipment and activities.

Proven experience in the supervision of crews engaged in line painting maintenance and sign shop activities.

Capable of overseeing 4 x 4 plowing and bus stop snow removal.

Ability to exercise appropriate judgement for assignments within the M.M.M.S. guidelines.

Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
-
Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.

May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's class “DZ” licence and have an acceptable driving record.
This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.
Development opportunity rate of pay: $35.25 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
