At Varian, A Siemens Healthineers Company, we are seeking a UX Manager to lead a team of User Experience Designers located across North America, in our mission to provide healthcare professionals with the means of helping patients around the world to beat cancer.
The UX Leader will oversee a skilled UX team to support products across multiple business lines, engage with stakeholders at all levels to optimally position UX to support key business priorities, while also contributing through strategic design activities where their time and expertise is needed.
As UX Manager, your 3 main areas of responsibility will be as follows: Manage the team;
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to a team of skilled UX professionals.
- Manage project schedules, and resource allocation, while keeping the big picture in focus through collaboration with program management.
- Inspire and motivate the team to motivate the team to innovate with customers and users, while respecting constraints.
- Establish rituals, practices, and ways of working to foster a positive and productive environment.
- Set standards for and provide feedback on the quality of the deliverables of your team, from low-fidelity designs for the purpose of communication, through to usability engineering documents required including Human Centered Design regulated documents, requirements, and system usability hazard and risk assessments.
Establish deep domain knowledge, and drive the UX strategy for the products your team supports;
- Lead the UX strategy for Digital Oncology products and solutions.
- Develop relationships with, and communicate regularly with key stakeholders across business lines, to establish UX as a strategic partner, and to ensure that UX activities and priorities are planned and budgeted for.
- Work closely with subject matter experts to develop a deep understanding of the oncology domain, clinical software, as well as the challenges of clinical contexts where they are used.
- Maintain a close collaboration with our UX research team, working together to identify activities that deepen everyone’s understanding of user needs, and to validate requirements, concepts, and implemented products.
- Represent the voice of UX while working collaboratively with Product Management, Engineering, and other stakeholders to define current and future products and services.
- Lead design thinking and visioning workshops to guide stakeholders in defining product direction.
- Possess a deep understanding of human factors/usability engineering, Human Centered Design and Human Systems Integration, and understand how it relates to IEC 62366.
Collaborate and co-ordinate with UX leaders across the organization;
- Drive the continuous improvement for Human Centered Design and human factors development processes and tools.
- Communicate and collaborate with executive management and UX Leadership to ensure continuity of UX support across products lines.
- Continuously improve our methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
- Help promote an organization-wide understanding of user-validated design, and champion design thinking within an agile organization.
- Take on ownership of strategic UX topics that advance overall UX maturity.
Skills & Experience Required
- Degree in Industrial Design, HCI, User Interaction Design or design related areas, or equivalent work experience.
- Previous experience leading teams.
- Previous experience establishing deep relationships with stakeholders at all levels, to position UX as a strategic partner in delivering business priorities.
- Deep knowledge of Varian's Digital Oncology business and portfolio
- Extensive practical experience with complex UX, IxD, Usability Engineering experience supporting product development.
- Experience designing for medical products, or for medical contexts.
- Experience working in highly regulated industries.
- Familiar with agile and iterative development processes.
- Fluency in English language, both written and spoken.
- Located in North America, and willing to travel as needed to visit customers, business partners, and peers across the organization.

The Annual Base Pay For This Position Is Min $90,300 - Max 140,300
Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Siemens Healthineers offers a variety of health and wellness benefits including paid time off and holiday pay.
