What You Will Do
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Engineering, the Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for preparing and supervising the delivery transportation engineering projects and assignments by researching, planning and implementing operational improvements to the public transit system in the City of Toronto. The incumbent will undertake and supervise the delivery of a variety of research, analysis and implementation assignments to support the Transportation Planning and Engineering department’s objectives and other commission departments. Demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and helps to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies. Participates in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.
Will be required to attend site visits on occasion. Some exposure to construction site hazards, noise, dirt, and inclement weather during on site during field reviews and/or information meetings.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- University degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, combined with several years of directly related experience.
- Registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is required.
- Requires a sound knowledge of civil engineering principles, methods and practices, specifically in Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning.
- Must have technical knowledge on a variety of topics including traffic signal controllers, transit signal priority, transit priority measures, design for transit vehicles, traffic simulation models, applicable TTC, Toronto, provincial, national standards (e.g. City of Toronto design standards, Ontario Traffic Manuals, and Transportation Association of Canada Manuals), as well as transit stop and terminal best practices.
- Must have knowledge of project management concepts and practices and can carry out and/or co-ordinate projects and studies.
- Must demonstrate on-site experience and practical knowledge of transit priority measures and design.
- Must possess sound judgment; strong analytical, problem solving and organizational ability; effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; effective technical report writing and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with some complex traffic modelling software (e.g. Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun) is essential as well as general office software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must quickly develop comprehensive working knowledge of and be able to assist others in understanding and using, departmental policies and procedures, City of Toronto design guides, Ontario Traffic Manuals, Transportation Association of Canada manuals, and TTC Design Guidelines.
- Must successfully complete TTC safety training as applicable to job duties.
- Possession of a valid Class “G” Driver’s license for the Province of Ontario and access to a vehicle.
