Calgary Progressive Lifestyles Foundation (CPLF) is a registered not-for-profit charitable organization that serves people with disabilities. Founded in 1989, today CPLF is considered one of Calgary's premier service providers supporting people with disabilities at work, at home, and in the community.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Community Support Worker to join our team, who can speak and understand Vietnamese.

In this role, you will work directly with adults with disabilities, facilitating their participation in recreational and social activities, supporting personal growth and community involvement, and ensuring their overall well-being. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals in our community.

The ideal candidate:-

  • Assist individuals with daily activities such as meal preparation and personal hygiene
  • Must be able to speak and understand Vietnamese
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to individuals
  • Administer medications as directed by healthcare professionals
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Help individuals with mobility issues, including heavy lifting if required
  • Will be responsible to assist individual with home living activities and ensuring the safety and wellness of the individual

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support clients in building natural supports within the community and accessing community activities
  • Accompany clients to registered recreational or social activities, promoting community inclusion
  • Implement and monitor client goals and support plans
  • Support clients with medication management and personal care tasks, when necessary.
  • Monitor for signs of crises or emergencies and respond using pre-established de-escalation methods to ensure safety
  • Empower clients to achieve greater independence, fostering positive behavior and engagement with others.
  • Assist with and/or accompany individuals to appointments as required.
  • Ensure that the individuals’ health, safety, and wellbeing are maintained at all times.
  • Assist the individual in any area they may require assistance in.
  • Any other duties relevant to the position and individual’s needs as may be required.

Requirements:

  • A post-secondary diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to speak and understand Vietnamese
  • Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and strategies
  • Current CPR and First Aid (Level C) certification required
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention (e.g., CPI) is required
  • Valid Police Clearance Check with Vulnerable Persons Check (within the last two years)
  • A reliable vehicle and valid driver’s class 5 license with 2M liability insurance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

*Medication administration training, Crisis Prevention Intervention training, Abuse Protocol Training, and Positive Behavior Support training will be provided.

Desired Qualifications (Preferred):

· Additional certifications or degrees in psychology, behavioral therapy, social work, or related fields

· Knowledge of or experience in community inclusion is an asset

* Must be able to speak and understand Vietnamese

  • Monday - Friday (9:00am to 3:00pm)

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Calgary, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

  • Secondary School (preferred)
