SCHOOL BUS DRIVER
Position Description:
There is a position available for Casual School Bus Driver(s). School Bus Drivers are hired to the District and deployed according to departmental need. Route allocations will change as required. All applications must be completed online and will be accepted until the position is filled.
Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe transportation of students to and from school, on scheduled and non-scheduled trips.
Hours of work: Four and one half (4.5) hrs per day, (5) days per week
Duties to Commence: As soon as possible after closing
Work Year Base: Ten (10) months per year
Commencing Salary: $29.82/hr.
Duties include:

Safely operates school buses of different sizes and types under a variety of road and weather conditions, for the purpose of transporting students.

Ensures that the school bus is road worthy by performing a pre and post trip inspection each day and records the findings on a pre-trip inspection report sheet.

Promptly reports any mechanical defects and safety device defects on the school bus to the Working Foreman, Dispatcher or Transportation Supervisor.

Familiarizes students with safety regulations and procedures and performs emergency evacuation drills as directed by the Transportation Supervisor.

Maintains student discipline on the bus and reports any problems to the Transportation Supervisor or Administrative Officer.

Assists with the registration of bus students by giving out and collecting registration forms and by preparing a temporary student list and road map of the bus run.

Keeps assigned bus in sanitary condition by cleaning the inside and outside of the bus as necessary and by disinfecting the inside at least once each week.

Administers minor firs aid.

Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment and vehicles are operated according to set standards.

Ensure the safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and the safe use and operation of equipment and hand tools.

Informs the Supervisor(s) and/or Administrative Officer(s) of vandalized equipment or property.

Follows all Motor Vehicle Act Legislation.

Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Grade 10 or equivalency
- Minimum Class 2 Driver's Licence with Air Brakes endorsement
- Clean Driver's Abstract
- 2 years recent (within 5 years) bus driving experience is preferred
- Ability to work independently and set priorities
- WHMIS certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period
- Other applicable safety training and/or certificates as provided by the District to be completed as needed
- Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment
- Ability to manage difficult conversations in a professional manner Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team
