About the role

Position Details

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Fire Suppression (Project Manager) to join our Vancouver office. In this role, you will lead a team of designers to deliver projects from inception to completion, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget expectations are met. You should have a proven track record in both technical excellence and business development. Creativity, a proactive attitude, and strong communication, organizational, and report-writing skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design fire suppression systems, including calculations and equipment selections.
  • Plan, coordinate, and complete multiple projects.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, specifications, meeting minutes, contract drawings, and documentation.
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to the team, ensuring technical quality.
  • Establish and monitor internal budgets and project delivery schedules.
  • Mentor and guide the career development of the Fire Suppression Team.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Contribute to business development efforts and achieve annual revenue and new work targets.
  • Assist in developing internal technical guidance documents.
  • Comply with AME Quality management standards and processes.
  • Build and maintain industry presence through community, industry, and educational engagement.
  • Participate in relevant conferences annually.
  • Develop and deliver presentations internally, to clients, or at conferences.
  • Pursue career development to maintain professional designations.

Key Skills

  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with HydroCAD or other industry used hydraulic calculation software is required.
  • Ability to assess and align team composition with project demands.
  • Technical and project management mentoring skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of engineering technical developments.
  • Strong analytical, communication and report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with all employees, clients, colleagues, and municipal agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and conflicting priorities.
  • Sound engineering decision-making and judgment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • P.Eng. or Professional Technologist designation is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the engineering industry, focusing on team management, business development, and client relationship management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fire suppression codes and standards relevant to BC and Alberta building codes.
  • Proficient in creating and overseeing detailed fire suppression drawings, hydraulic calculations, equipment selection, and system design for various fire suppression systems.
  • Ensure all fire suppression deliverables meet company standards for accuracy and quality standards at every project stage.
