Position Overview:

As a Mechanical Designer & Drafter Technologist, you will play a crucial role in the design and drafting of mechanical systems for a variety of projects. Under the guidance of a senior mechanical designer and project manager, you will have the opportunity to work independently while also providing leadership and mentorship to junior team members.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Able to work independently on specified tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Develop and produce engineering designs, drawings, plans, diagrams, or layouts based on initial concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other relevant data.
  • Preparation of schematic design, design development and construction documents in either AutoCAD or REVIT, and adhere to Reinbold Design Standards and Guidelines
  • Assisting in the preparation of drawings and book specifications.
  • Reviewing and verifying design drawings to ensure conformity prior to submission for review by the supervisor.
  • Assisting with contract administration, including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and on-site reviews.
  • Preparing construction specifications, technical reports, cost estimates, and material estimates.
  • Taking on increased leadership responsibilities, including coaching and delegating design tasks.
  • Performing load calculations using company-provided software.
  • Selecting mechanical equipment in collaboration with suppliers and manufacturer representatives.
  • Coordinating mechanical systems and designs with other disciplines.
  • Identifying and communicating the need for additional services and fees to project managers.
  • Attending design and construction meetings with clients, other consultants, and contractors.
  • Maintaining project schedules and project budgets to track work progress and manpower resource utilization with assistance from the Project Manager.
  • Striving to accomplish company goals of high-quality workmanship and project timelines through the continual improvement of workflows and design standards.

  • Monday to Thursday, eight (8) working hours per day, plus 1 hour of unpaid lunch,

Experience & Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in drafting technology or a related field is an asset.
  • Professional accreditation such as CET, E.I.T., or P. Tech (Eng.) is an asset but not required.
  • Experience in preparing engineering designs and drawings for mechanical systems, including HVAC and plumbing, is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including plumbing, HVAC, heating, cooling, air handlers, and fire protection, with the ability to interpret construction drawings.
  • In-depth knowledge of current codes and standards, including local plumbing and building codes.
  • Strong understanding of design and documentation standards.
  • Proficiency in software programs such as Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
