Job Title: IT Business Partner – Onsite Deskside Support
Job Type : 1-year contract (with possibility of extension)
Location: Hanover, Ontario (with monthly travel to Timmins, ON)
Start Date: ASAP
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (occasional after-hours support may be required)
Rate : $40/hr
Position Overview:
Our client, a leader in utility infrastructure, is seeking a hands-on, self-motivated IT Business Partner to act as the sole onsite IT support resource across two key locations: Hanover and Timmins, Ontario. In this role, you will serve as the face of IT, directly supporting end-users with day-to-day deskside technical needs while liaising with our client’s centralized IT team based in Edmonton. This is a unique opportunity to provide Tier 2-level deskside support while building strong relationships with operational teams on the ground.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Tier 2-level onsite deskside support for laptops, desktops, mobile phones (iOS/Android), and peripheral devices.
- Set up and provision Windows 10/11 laptops and related hardware.
- Troubleshoot Wi-Fi/network connectivity issues, in coordination with the remote network support team.
- Conduct basic hardware installations, including racking switches under remote guidance.
- Perform light field setups (e.g., configuring Starlink dishes for remote site connectivity).
- Serve as the first point of contact for all local IT needs; manage and triage incidents using an internal ticketing system.
- Log requests on behalf of team members, resolve issues directly when possible, or escalate appropriately.
- Maintain clear communication with employees and IT HQ on the status and resolution of technical issues.
- Promote IT services and be an approachable, reliable partner to the business teams on-site.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on IT support experience, particularly in a desk-side or field support role.
- Solid technical knowledge of:
- Windows 10/11 operating systems
- General hardware troubleshooting and provisioning
- Basic networking (connecting cables, identifying connectivity issues)
- Mobile device support (Apple and Android)
- Experience working with ticketing systems, ServiceNow or similar.
- Ability to collaborate with a distributed IT team and follow remote instructions for advanced tasks (e.g., switch configuration).
- Comfortable with physical tasks such as lifting hardware and installing equipment on-site, including climbing to install connectivity devices when needed.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage relationships and expectations with non-technical staff.
Travel & Site Requirements:
- Required to travel to Timmins, ON for one week per month (travel will follow a set schedule).
- No travel to other remote sites beyond Hanover and Timmins.
Working Conditions:
- Role is 100% onsite for the first 6 months; remote flexibility may be evaluated after probation.
- Occasional after-hours reach outs may occur; escalation and support are available via the central IT team.
- Ticket volume is expected to be low initially but will increase as the service is adopted.
