Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and input CNC programs based on technical drawings and specifications using software such as Mastercam or AutoCAD.
- Assist in setting up CNC machines, including selecting and installing the appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials.
- Troubleshoot programming or machining issues and provide technical support to machinists.
- Operate CNC machines to produce parts, ensuring that all operations are performed accurately and efficiently.
- Inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure they are operating correctly and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to determine machining requirements
- Select appropriate tools, cutting speeds, and feeds for efficient machining.
- Optimize existing programs for cycle time, tool life, and part quality.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality departments to improve manufacturing processes.
- Maintain documentation of programs, setups, and revisions.
Required Skills & Expertise:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5-10 years of experience working with Mastercam
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a CNC Programmer/Setter in a manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and CNC programs.
- Proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code.
- Understands complex datum structures, including those for large weldments.
- Advanced work-holding for large components.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex mechanical and operational issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials and tools (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable standing for long periods and performing repetitive tasks.
Communication and Teamwork
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
