Working Conditions
Working with people with mental illness or other disabilities and those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Standard work hours are 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, however work schedule requires flexibility & could include evenings occasionally, with notice.
About the Role
The Employment & Community Service staff role is designed to help individuals living in poverty, with mental illness and/or other barriers, navigate and access community services and supports to ensure they have equitable and inclusive access to essential services and programs. This position is responsible for generating referrals, conducting intakes, providing information on community services, crisis intervention, and service navigations for both community and in-house resources. In addition, the incumbent will provide employment supports in Causeway’s Employment Resource Centre facilitating workshops, creating resumes/cover letters, drop-in support, and engaging in outreach conducting presentations to both clients and community partners.
Duties & Responsibilities

Administer intakes into Causeway programs and provide information and referral to other community organizations

Assist in community service navigation and referrals for clients

Participate in tours, presentations and community networking events, promoting Causeway programs & services

Refer clients who do not meet Causeway Intake Criteria to other programs and agencies in the community

Develop strong working relationships with agencies throughout the city of Ottawa /(and) Eastern Region

Gather and update relevant information on programs and services available to clients in the Ottawa area
-
Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in the Employment Resource Centre, ensuring all persons entering feel valued, heard and supported

Provide motivation and support to ERC drop-in or scheduled job seekers, to help identify their strengths and areas for growth. Assist with career exploration and addressing individual needs and concerns.

Assist participants in creating tailored resumes and cover letters, job applications, faxing, support with ODSP/OW reporting, social enterprise onboarding and transition support

Maintain an up-to-date resource library for job seekers, including job listings, career development material, educational material and community support programs and services
-
Deliver engaging pre-employment workshops, ensuring that workshop content and teaching methods are inclusive and adaptable to cater to a wide range of learning styles and abilities.

Administrative duties- including maintaining accurate records of client participation, outcomes, and satisfaction. Assist in collecting data for program evaluation and reporting requirements.

Provide de-escalation, crisis support, and referrals as required

Work alongside & provide mentorship to students & volunteers • Understand and adhere to all agency policies

Qualifications & Experience
-
Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree completion mandatory
-
Experience: Minimum 3 years supporting vulnerable people experiencing complex barriers
-
Language: English essential; Bilingual (English/French) considered a strong asset
-
First Aid/CPR required; training can be provided
-
Recent and valid Police Record Check required
-
Proven experience/knowledge of mental health, addictions, disabilities, homelessness and barriers to employment; including recognizing symptoms, providing appropriate support and connecting individuals to the right services
-
Experience in employment supports, job development or other employment programming positions
-
Strong de-escalation skills, experience and ability to address potential conflict or crisis situations in a calm, rational manner with clients’ needs at the center of decision making.

Broad understanding of community organizations and the services they can provide to vulnerable clients
-
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications/database management
-
Ability to multi-task & work a flexible schedule • Exceptional decision making and communication skills, both written and oral

Excellent time management skills, well organized with attention to detail
