SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager, Otsenhákta Student Centre, the incumbent acts as an advisor to Indigenous students on academic and non-academic programs and services. They will work in collaboration with campus partners to provide culturally safe student support services to Indigenous students.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide proactive support and guidance, to the appropriate resources to Indigenous students requiring help in the resolution of issues that have the potential to affect retention and academic success. Serve as a point of contact for Indigenous students seeking information and assistance. Provide individualized support and guidance to navigate university processes, academic programs and support services.

• Collaborate with student service units to identify, promote and celebrate Indigenous student leadership, achievements and involvement on campus and within the broader community.

• Maintain statistics on student demographics and requests for services to help create strategies that aim to improve service delivery.

• Keep up to date on best practices and trends in Indigenous student support and assess relevance to Concordia’s Indigenous student population.

• Assist in coordinating workshops and events designed to build student capacity in writing and study skills, time management and classroom interaction, in collaboration with other student services units. Assist in coordinating mentorship and peer support initiatives for Indigenous students (i.e., Homeroom, Futurebound, etc.) in collaboration with other student service units.

• Create and maintain a database of scholarships, awards and bursaries available to Indigenous students and help students with their applications as required.

• Participate in major events across the University such as Orientation and Open House.

• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree with two to four years of related work experience.

• Demonstrated experience working directly with Indigenous people, communities, collectives and organizations. Knowledge of the university environment considered an asset.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous student experiences and issues in post-secondary education.

• Resourceful team player dedicated to helping students succeed.

• Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French. Knowledge of an Indigenous language considered an asset.

• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.

• Experience leading discussion groups or facilitating meetings.

• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure with minimal supervision.

• Ability to work autonomously and to work effectively as part of a team.

• Ability to work outside normal operating hours for special events.
