About the role
We’re hiring a Head of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance – Food Safety to join our early core team . This is a paid part-time leadership role with early-employee equity , designed for someone who brings technical regulatory expertise and thrives in a startup environment.
Your primary mandate will be to translate Canada’s food safety regulations into platform-ready digital workflows working directly with our product and engineering teams to embed those rules into AgriAssure’s core infrastructure.
This is critical early hire role with a clear path to a full-time executive position as we scale.

Key Responsibilities:
- Build regulatory architecture across imports, domestic food safety, and future export modules
- Translate CFIA regulations, SFCR, PCPs, HACCP, and inspection protocols into structured, user-friendly platform workflows
- Development of risk scoring, audit readiness, and traceability features/logic from a regulatory standpoint into structured, user-friendly platform workflows
- Work closely with product and engineering teams to align regulatory logic with platform design, functionality, and user experience
- Recruit, on-board, and manage a network of regulatory consultants supporting client engagements
- Monitor regulatory updates and ensure timely platform adaptation
- Represent AgriAssure in public facing strategic initiatives such as key client meetings, strategic partnerships and investor relations
Candidate Profile:
- 7+ years in Canadian food safety, trade compliance, or agri-food regulatory affairs
- In-depth knowledge of CFIA inspection procedures, SFCR licensing, HACCP systems, traceability, and labelling
- Proven ability to translate regulatory frameworks into tools, systems, or software logic
- Hands-on experience with food safety digital tools or compliance automation platforms
- Strong communicator with the ability to engage internal teams, clients, and regulatory bodies
- Entrepreneurial, proactive, and comfortable building from zero in a fast-moving startup
- Bonus: familiarity with FDA, USDA, EU regulatory equivalencies, or startup product teams
Compensation Package:
- Part-time monthly retainer (commensurate with experience)
- Equity via ESOP (standard 4-year vesting, 1-year cliff)
- Full-time executive role introduced upon key milestones being met
- Ongoing performance-based equity top-ups may be considered
