Island Health’s Department of Cardiology has opportunities for three full time Cardiologists to join existing cardiologists and a group of dedicated cardiac internists and intensivists at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to establish a Heart Health Division in Nanaimo, which will be part of a well-established 20 member Division of Cardiology in Victoria.
Eligible candidates must be skilled in acute cardiology providing consultation service for hospitalist and other specialty groups, echocardiography interpretation (requires Canadian level 2 training or higher with currency), Holter and ECG reading, supervising nuclear perfusion imaging, performing pericardiocentesis, DC Cardioversions and rapid cardiac assessment clinics. Outpatient follow-up of patients through a private office, along with routine administrative duties, and participation in cardiology division and other relevant meetings, are expectations of this position. The call schedule for this position is 1:5-1:6.
The successful candidates will hold FRCPC Cardiology or be eligible for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Internal Medicine and Cardiology exams and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience with working in a coronary care unit and acute and office-based cardiology.
The Nanaimo medical community offers the opportunity for teaching and is a UBC Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program site. Additionally, this position will support teaching students, echo and electrodiagnostic techs and nursing staff.
