The payroll department is responsible for managing and processing pay for more than 7,000 permanent and temporary university employees on a bi-weekly cycle. The entire payroll operation ensures that employees are paid accurately and on time. Responsibilities include salary and wage calculations; deductions and remittances; regulatory compliance; pay distribution via direct deposit; record keeping and financial reporting. Payroll provides customer support to both employees and SFU’s faculty and departmental administrators. By performing these tasks, the payroll team has a critical role in managing one of the university's largest expenses.

About the Role

One of two senior Payroll Clerks acting as the Payroll processing leads. Notifies the University community that the timesheets are now closing. Coordinates with the Payroll staff to ensure that no one has any outstanding hours to be entered onto the timesheets to ensure all data has been completed/entered Maintains a variety of employee payroll and benefit records and respond to general enquiries. Documents each bi-weekly payroll calculation process for auditing purposes. Documents business procedures and business change practices as applicable to the payroll calculation process. Provides training, direction and advice to junior Payroll clerks on data processing practices and procedures. Assigns and checks the work of junior clerks. Provides information to other Financial Services and Human Resources staff on payroll matters.
