About the role

Penticton and District Society for Community Living (PDSCL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting people with diverse abilities in Penticton and surrounding communities. We provide support and services for people with intellectual disabilities, seniors, low-income adults, families, and persons facing homelessness.

PDSCL is looking for CASUAL Neighbourhood Watch Team Members to join our team. We operate seven days a week, and our shifts are:

  • 7 am - 3 pm
  • 3 pm -11 pm
  • 11 pm -7 am

We have many shifts available, so you can work up to 40 hrs per week and keep your schedule flexible or pick up a few shifts per week to supplement your other income.

Position Description

The Neighbourhood Watch Team Member will provide safety to the society’s premises and surrounding areas, assets, staff, residents and visitors. We kindly request your attention to the fact that our Neighbourhood Watch Team Members are not employed as security guards; rather, they are support workers who collaborate closely with our Transitional Housing Team. The primary duty they hold is to provide assistance and support, with a specific emphasis on upholding the safety, security and well-being of the premises and its neighbouring society. We appreciate your cooperation and comprehension in this matter.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor neighborhood activities and report any suspicious behavior to authorities.
  • Collaborate with other team members to patrol designated areas regularly.
  • Assist in promoting community safety and awareness.
  • Utilize first aid and CPR skills when necessary to provide assistance.
  • Respond to overdoses, de-escalate and provide crisis intervention
  • Uphold a professional and approachable demeanor when interacting with residents.
  • Follow established protocols and guidelines to ensure the safety and security of the neighborhood, the site/premises, employees and residents.

Position Requirements

Education and Credentials:

  • A completed security certificate
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working as a front-line worker in a shelter setting or security guard.
  • Minimum Grade 10 education
  • Valid CPR/First Aid
  • Satisfactory criminal record check-working with vulnerable adults
  • Medical clearance for fitness to work

Pay: $26.83-$29.76 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Penticton, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • Security / Shelter: 1 year (required)
