About the role

Director of Finance & Administration

Location: Corner Brook, NL

Venor is thrilled to partner with our client, the City of Corner Brook and lead their search for a strategic and forward-thinking Director of Finance and Administration to join their senior leadership team. Reporting to the City Manager, this key executive role provides oversight of Finance, Information Technology, and Insurance—ensuring that the City’s corporate infrastructure supports both operational excellence and long-term sustainability.

This is an opportunity for an experienced leader to drive impact at the municipal level, working collaboratively with Council, senior leadership, and community stakeholders to enhance Corner Brook’s financial resilience and administrative strength.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of the Finance and Administration Department;
  • Lead the development and oversight of the City’s operating and capital budgets, including financial forecasts and long-term financial planning;
  • Ensure compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and all municipal, provincial, and federal financial regulations;
  • Oversee the City’s Group Benefits Committee and negotiate group benefit and pension contracts;
  • Direct IT services, ensuring systems are secure, resilient, and meet evolving operational demands;
  • Provide strategic oversight for insurance coverage, and risk management processes;
  • Act as City Manager when delegated and represent the City in various high-level negotiations and public functions;
  • Maintain key relationships with provincial and federal government bodies and community stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring:

  • A Master’s or undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field;
  • A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA: CA, CGA, CMA);
  • 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in finance and administration, preferably in a unionized or municipal setting;
  • Proven expertise in HR leadership, collective bargaining, and people management;
  • Strong knowledge of municipal governance, public sector financial practices, and applicable legislation;
  • Exceptional skills in negotiation, leadership, conflict resolution, communications, and strategic planning;
  • A valid Newfoundland & Labrador Driver’s License and ability to travel as required.
