About the role
We are looking for a part-time cook to join the team!
Under the direction of the Food Service Manager, the Cook is responsible for optimal food preparation for residents based on legislative requirements and Victoria Village Manor standards, embracing the Enabling Choices model.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and/or be responsible for the preparation/delivery of food following therapeutic diets according to planned menus for residents.
- Reviews menus before preparing meals and prepares and serves them properly and attractively
- Ensures use of proper food handling techniques
- Assists in converting recipes to different quantities and preparing/following daily production charts
- Participates actively in department's Quality Management program
- Performs audits as required
Qualifications and Skills
- Must have successfully completed a minimum 1 year program in Food Preparation/Chef Training or Culinary Arts from an Accredited College and/or must hold a current Assistant Cook Certificate issued by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Student’s enrolled in Culinary Management or Chef Training will also be considered;
- Must have experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or retirement setting;
- Must be knowledgeable of the Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating;
- Must have knowledge of and experience with special and therapeutic diets;
- Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for majority of shift;
- Red Seal designation preferred;
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS);
- Must hold a current Food Safety Certificate
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: $23.63-$24.80 per hour
