Location
Little Current, on Manitoulin Island, is located only 1.5 hours from Sudbury and Health Sciences North, our main referral centre. Manitoulin Island is the world's largest freshwater island, which can be assessed by the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry in the summer months and by road and the iconic swing bridge year-round. Favourite nearby attractions include Providence Bay (white sand beach complete with sand dunes, and plentiful milkweed for monarch butterflies), Bridal Veil Falls, and hiking trails among many others.

The LCMA serves the communities of Whitefish River First Nation, Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, Sheguiandah First Nation, Wiikwemikoong Unceded Territory, and the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands. The LCMA also provides OB services for the island.

Facilities
The Northeastern Manitoulin Family Health Team (NEMFHT) is the setting for the physician team of the Little Current Medical Associates. The clinic is attached to the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) where the physicians provide 24-hour ER coverage, inpatient care (16 bed ward), and obstetrics. They also employ fully-funded access to dieticians and RNs for diabetic care. The MHC is host to monthly visiting specialists from Sudbury including General Surgery (endoscopy/colonoscopy), Nephrology, Psychiatry, Gynecology/Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Cardiology, and Orthopedic Surgery.
The NEMFHT team includes three nurse partitioners, four registered nurses, three registered practical nurses, a midewife, a pharmacist, two physician assistants, a social worker (CBT), and a dedicated administrative team committed to offering quality primary health care in a collaborative setting. The clinic also hosts OTN appointments, ECHOs, chiropody, and an addictions clinic.
Our physicians also support long-term care homes in Wikwemikoong First Nation and Little Current.
Nearby Aboriginal Health Access Centre Noojmowin-Teg provides a variety of other programs and services available to First Nations clients as well.
Summary of Rural Generalist Position
- approx
$475,000/year incl overhead + billings + special premiums + prev care + comp care
-500 patient roster minimum
-office shadow billings are 9.65%
-ED shadow billings are 20-25%
-option to work in nursing home
-several Special Premiums can be earned
-based on the following workdays/month (may vary month to month, based on 16 working days/month) and the ratio of clinic to ED days is negotiable
-6 clinics days
-2 ER daytime ER shifts (8 am to 6 pm)
-4 ER night (6 pm to 8 am)
-2 ER weekend shifts
-2 CALRI (Collaboration/Admin/Leadership/Research/Innovation)
-37 HFO locum days to cover while away (1.0 FTE)
