Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) currently has an exciting opportunity for a Warehouse Operations Leader to support our Eastern Canada Parts Distribution Centre (ECPDC). This role is full-time permanent opportunity on our afternoon shift (1:30PM – 10:00PM), residing in our Bowmanville facility and reporting to the Afternoon (PM) Operations Manager. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to motivate our warehouse team members to meet orders and increase efficiencies.

What You’ll be Doing:

Leadership & People Development

  • Direct warehouse team members in daily activities; places team member and visitor safety as the top priority
  • Conduct process observations and documentation to ensure safety and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) compliance in daily operations
  • Promote the ongoing learning and development of team members by providing direct feedback, coaching, mentoring, career path guidance, and addressing performance concerns
  • Provide team members with recognition, gap assessment, and overall performance documentation to reinforce career and personal growth
  • Coach and develop team members in the use and awareness of Toyota Business Practices (TBP) to develop tools for critical thinking
  • Accountable for Health & Safety under provincial and federal acts and abide by and enforce facility and/or regulated safety rules for all at the facility

Communication

  • Update Facility Management Development System (FMDS) boards daily
  • Present FMDS data in daily huddles to drive team member engagement and curiosity toward critical thinking initiatives
  • Oversee process control boards and Kanban stations with team members
  • Engage with others daily to ask, “How’s your process?”
  • Listen to team members for operational feedback; create ownership of problems and facilitate resolutions
  • Use and present TBPs to team members for awareness of current kaizen activities

Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) Activities

  • Promote safety activities to reduce overall incidents throughout the facility
  • Assess work motions and review standardized work to ensure quality and productivity
  • Create work combinations, offer proposals on how many workers are required per shift and what their positions would be
  • Identify what is Overburden (Muri), Unevenness (Mura), Waste (Muda), and implement improvements (kaizen)
  • Demonstrate, share and teach continuous improvement
  • Use Toyota Business Practices (TBP) critical thinking tools to address root causes and develop countermeasures
  • Oversee small to medium process improvements through data analytics, TBP, or other practical resolution processes
  • Track the progress of all continuous improvement (Kaizen) activities within your team
  • Use appropriate strategies and actions to overcome resistance to change and encourage change during all stages of Kaizen – Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA)

Operations

  • Document safety orientations for team members, facility trades, and business partners on site as needed
  • Ensure facility 5-S standard ownership and maintenance
  • Oversee shift time and attendance
  • Assist facility annual cycle count process completion
  • Coordinate the development, updating, and maintenance of SOPs and user guides for your team, shift, or facility

What You’ll Bring:

  • High school diploma required; University degree or College diploma in a related discipline is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a warehouse environment
  • Previous supervisory experience is an asset
  • Coach, mentor, and develop teams
  • Strong analytics and personal initiative with a proven methodology for forming resolutions
  • Experience in coordinating and monitoring project processes while developing and communicating guidelines and procedures
  • Excellent communicator; prioritize issues and risks to senior leaders
  • Work with others at all levels in and outside the organization and harmoniously within a team environment
  • Initiate and improve work processes to increase safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Strong digital knowledge including MS Excel and MS Access; Power BI and dashboard creation is an asset
