Senior Accountant
Job Description
We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to cover a 16-month maternity leave with the strong possibility of transitioning into a permanent role. The successful candidate will lead day-to-day financial operations, payroll activities and month-end processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone who is actively pursuing their Canadian CPA or holds an international equivalent and is eager to grow within our organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Operations
- Administer and submit payroll, including payroll reporting and account reconciliation.
- Allocate group benefits, insurance, and fuel expenses in accounting software (QBO).
- Review and approve employee expense reimbursements through ApprovalMax and ADP.
- Manage daily cash flow and oversee sales reconciliations, sales variance analysis, and comparison of PO prices to settlement prices.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure proper documentation for the company's financial activities.
- Month-End & Periodic Tasks
- Perform monthly account reconciliations (bank, assets, prepaid expenses, leases, payroll, intercompany loans).
- Oversee inventory reconciliation and monthly purchases in QBO.
- Prepare asset depreciation schedules and maintain accurate records.
- WSIB submission and reconciliation.
- Intercompany & Expense Management
- Record intercompany transactions, including sales, expense recharges, and COGS.
- Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and analyze weekly/monthly reports (e.g., sales variance, bins profitability, overdue interest calculations).
- Support ad hoc reporting and finance-related tasks as requested by management.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Certification
- Working towards a CPA designation (or equivalent international CPA) strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks preferred) and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and purchase order processes is an asset.
- Core Competencies
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills and in financial operations.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) and willingness to collaborate within a team environment.
- High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and compliance.
- Experience tracking budget expenses and forecasting.

LOCATION
Hybrid: 3 days in office and 2 days working remotely every week
