Introduction
Department / Research Program: Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology
Dr. Abhinav Sharma’s group at McGill University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow, preferably with background in bioengineering and computer science. The position is available starting ASAP. The environment is exceptional as it brings together a team of clinicians, clinical staff members, scientists, machine learning specialists, graduate student trainees and industry. The fellow will learn about good clinical research practices and conducts in the cardiovascular disease space in addition to expertise with digital health and use of digital health tools in medicine. The project involves exploring the use of wearable digital technologies in patients with and without cardiovascular disease.
The research group focuses on two major themes: 1) Cardiovascular outcomes and therapy optimization in patients with diabetes and heart failure, 2) Use of digital health to streamline follow-up and therapy selection in patients with heart failure. We aim to develop new tools to leverage novel biomarkers, digital data, and electronic health records to conduct clinical studies, optimize patient data collection, and enhance knowledge translation.
Responsabilities and Objectives
• Conducting the research (writing of protocols, communications with REB, data collection, analysis of results),
• Publishing peer-reviewed publications,
• Assist with the writing of competitive grant applications,
• Assist with the supervision of other student members,
• Other duties as assigned including supervision of MSc, undergraduate students, medical students, and medical residents/fellows.
Education / Experience
A Postdoctoral fellow is a full-time student currently enrolled in a Canadian University program. The individual must have recently been awarded (within 5 years) a PhD or equivalent. The Postdoctoral fellow will receive a stipend or a bursary from a professor’s grant for research activities that will be performed on a full-time basis. All benefits are administered by the University under which they are registered.
Education:
• Must hold a PhD in bioengineering, computer science, mathematics, or statistics.
• Must be registered as a Postdoctoral Fellow with McGill University.
Field of Study: Digital health, machine learning, artificial intelligence in healthcare environments.
Required Skills
• Excellent French and English, spoken and written,
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
• Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision,
• Ability to code in R and/or Python,
• Knowledge of statistics and/or machine learning techniques,
• Knowledge of how to handle continuous signal data would be preferred,
• Experience with digital health technologies is preferred,
• Preferably a student located in Quebec, but condition not required.
