Position Overview

Lauren Services is currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support the development and execution of I&C engineering designs for industrial projects in the Oil & Gas, Power, and Petro-Chemical sectors. This role will involve working on a variety of engineering tasks and providing support through all phases of project execution. This is a hybrid in-office position with flexible work hours and access to our EIT Mentorship Program.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare I&C design deliverables including instrument indexes, loop diagrams, wiring and termination drawings, control panel layouts, and system architecture diagrams

  • Extract and analyze information from P&IDs and process documents to support design activities

  • Specify and select field instruments and control devices based on process and design requirements

  • Develop control philosophies, cause & effect matrices, and system narratives

  • Support site visits, commissioning, and start-up activities

  • Create material specifications, data sheets, and support technical bid evaluations

  • Review vendor documentation for compliance with project requirements

  • Ensure adherence to applicable industry codes and standards (CEC, ISA, CSA, etc.)

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including project managers and other engineers

  • Maintain compliance with Lauren’s health, safety, and quality management procedures

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering from an accredited institution

  • 2–5 years of experience in engineering design, preferably in oil & gas or EPCM environments

  • Enrolled or eligible for enrollment as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) through EGBC

  • Solid understanding of control panels, DCS/PLC systems, loop drawings, and field instrumentation

  • Experience with control system architecture and industrial instrumentation

  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and other applicable standards

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Project management experience is considered an asset but not required

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities

  • Collaborative and proactive approach to project execution

  • Comfortable interacting with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders

  • Familiarity with DBMs, project plans, and scheduling from an electrical input perspective is an asset
