The Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Department of Emergency Medicine, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre recruit qualified academic emergency medicine physicians to a variety of academic position descriptions, including Clinician Teachers, Clinician Educators, Clinicians in Quality & Innovation, and Clinician Investigators to a maximum of 8 full-time positions. Successful candidates must be eligible for a Full-Time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The effective start date of the appointment is July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreeable date.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is seeking passionate individuals to join our team. We are always on the lookout for ambitious physicians who aim to leave their mark on the emergency medicine landscape, and we are fully dedicated to supporting you every step of the way to reach your goals. Sunnybrook is a tertiary care hospital in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area with 1.2 million patient visits annually including 64,000 ED visits. We serve as a regional referral centre for diverse specialties, including burns, stroke, cancer, interventional cardiology, neurosurgery, vascular, spinal surgery, and high-risk maternal/neonatal care. We function as the base hospital for Toronto EMS and are proud to be Canada’s largest trauma centre and the first hospital in Canada to be accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Trauma Centre.

We are a collaborative and collegial group of approximately 45 physicians with a commitment to academic success and clinical excellence. We prioritize group wellness and flexible scheduling due to our varied practice patterns and interests. These interests include pre-hospital care, quality improvement and patient safety, health services research, virtual care, technological innovation, ultrasound, and medical education. Clinically, we function in a well-resourced environment with a diverse, complex patient population. We have unparalleled support from specialist consultants and allied health, as well as comprehensive options for follow-up to ensure our patients receive the best care during and after their ED visit.

Sunnybrook is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and a core training site for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and various Postgraduate and Fellowship Programs. Our staff are well-established leaders in medical education. We are a lead site for the residency program’s POCUS training, and our simulation program offers both teaching and continuing professional development opportunities in a high-fidelity, interprofessional, team-based environment.

Responsibilities will include providing exemplary, efficient and patient-centred in clinical care, supervising and supporting bedside teaching of trainees, provide medical consults to in-field paramedic teams through our patch program, and contribute to the academic priorities of the University through education, quality improvement, research, and/or administration.

The successful candidate must hold a FRCPC, CCFP-EM or DABEM certified in Emergency Medicine, MD or equivalent, english proficient, eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario with strong clinical and teaching skills.

Estimated compensation of $300,000-$400,000 per year based on full-time clinical work and academic contributions via our Alternate Funding Arrangement (AFA) and academic work via our Alternate Funding Plan (AFP).
