About the role
Alberta Ballet is seeking a Communications Specialist to coordinate and implement organization-wide communications that align with the organization’s strategic goals and brand voice. The Communications Specialist will manage content workflows and internal alignment across its Company, School, and Community divisions.
This role is ideal for a skilled communicator who works well across teams and easily shifts perspective to meet the needs of different audiences/stakeholder groups.
The Communications Specialist will identify, curate, and shape the stories that highlight Alberta Ballet’s impact and progress on its ambitious 10-year strategic plan. They will implement and manage shared resources - guides, calendars and content libraries - to ensure key messages and supporting data are accessible to teams and board members throughout the organization, while also supporting external relations (media, influencers and arts colleagues).
Often working behind the scenes as part of the Corporate Division, this role supports the systems to help every team stay aligned and informed.

Key Responsibilities
Content Development & Editorial Support
This role supports Alberta Ballet’s communications by contributing writing, editing, and content coordination across platforms and audiences. The successful candidate will work with teams across the organization to ensure messaging is clear, effective, and aligned with our brand. Duties may include:

Draft, edit, and proofread copy for digital and print platforms, including websites, templates, and event programs.

Craft audience-specific messaging that resonates—shifting easily between internal updates and external communications for media, community partners, and event attendees.

Be a resource across the organization to ensure all content is aligned to the Alberta Ballet tone and brand.
-
Maintain the Communications SharePoint site and sub-directories.
-
Work with the Community Division team to collect, refine, and maintain a library of testimonials and stories from outreach partners and participants.

Assist in producing materials for donor reports, audience engagement, and institutional storytelling.
Media Relations
Support Alberta Ballet’s media engagement by assisting with story development, outreach, and relationship management. Duties may include:

Support media outreach efforts by drafting media releases, backgrounders, and story briefs in collaboration with the CCO.

Maintain and update Alberta Ballet’s media list and assist in coordinating outreach and follow-up.
-
Help identify story opportunities that advance Alberta Ballet’s strategic priorities.
-
Identify high-impact referral opportunities from partner or media websites to boost search rankings, enhance brand visibility, and maintain message alignment.
Digital Coordination
Contribute to the maintenance and visibility of Alberta Ballet’s digital presence through content updates and best practices in discoverability. Duties may include:

Maintain the corporate content on Alberta Ballet’s websites—such as governance, leadership bios, and media releases.

Advise on SEO best practices and edit content to ensure discoverability, while preserving Alberta Ballet’s distinct tone and messaging integrity.
Collaboration & Administration
Help foster alignment across departments by coordinating communications planning, resources, and content management. Duties may include:

Act as a communications bridge between departments, contributing to shared planning and ensuring alignment across teams.

Maintain a centralized internal calendar that tracks key events, communications priorities, and deadlines across divisions.
-
Organize shared resources, including content libraries, style guides, and planning templates.
-
Maintain organized digital files, copy decks, and shared calendars.
-
Provide editorial support for internal reports, speaking notes, and other written communications
On-Site Support at Events (Company or School)
Assist with event-related communications and coordination, providing hands-on support as needed. Duties may include:

Coordinate guest speakers for Alberta Ballet mainstage performances (Dance Talks/Story Time) in collaboration with the artistic team.

Develop communication plans for on-site fundraisers (ie. 50/50 raffles)
-
Support on site at performances and other events as needed
-
5–7 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field
-
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills; writes clearly with warmth, precision and attention to cadence
-
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage shifting priorities
-
Has good judgment and can adapt tone with guidance
-
Experience supporting organizations with diverse stakeholder groups and program streams
-
Skilled at maintaining alignment and tone across departments without slowing momentum

Familiarity with tools such as:

Canva or similar design platforms

SharePoint or other cloud-based file management systems

Website CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace)
