Position Overview
Context
The Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) is a bilingual, full-service, regional, 104-bed hospital, providing high-quality care to the residents of Prescott-Russell and surrounding areas. HGH provides a full range of medical and inpatient care programs and services from its main campus in Hawkesbury and two satellite mental health centres located in Clarence-Rockland and Casselman.
In 2020, HGH completed a $200M redevelopment project, resulting in a modern, bright, and healing physical environment. HGH is also a founding member of the Atlas Alliance and is proud to be a leader in the concerted effort to align all residents of Eastern Ontario under one common health record (EPIC)
The Executive Lead of Planning and Business Development will direct the hospital’s strategic growth efforts through the generation and delivery of new business opportunities. They will be responsible for nurturing existing relationships and establishing new partnerships. They will be required to design and execute innovative programs and campaigns that will drive new profitable business opportunities through multiple channels. This new role will be critical in delivering growth and expanding service and product offerings within the Eastern Ontario and Southwestern Québec region and will be an important contributor to maintaining our reputation as a provider of choice for our community.
The incumbent must demonstrate a deep understanding of the healthcare sector. They must also be proactive in establishing ongoing partnerships with a variety of organizations and providers in both the private and public sectors. The incumbent will demonstrate a successful track record in establishing business plans by identifying new profitable opportunities and will possess the financial acumen required to ensure these plans meet expected targets and deliver the anticipated revenue growth.
This is a key leadership role for an ambitious and passionate individual who is committed to shaping the future, by driving growth and helping to lead HGH forward into the next generation of innovative care offerings.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning

Research healthcare trends to anticipate, develop and implement the hospital’s long-term strategic goals, with 5 to 20-year outlooks.

Adapt existing master plan where required, develop future plans to ensure growth and maximize potential.

Analyze ongoing regional needs in Eastern Ontario and Quebec to inform decision-making.
-
Evaluate the feasibility and financial impact of potential new projects, ensuring their alignment with clinical services and our continuum of care.

Collaborate with Facility Management and other internal managers in project execution.

Solicit input from Clinical Managers, Clinical Directors in the hospitals 4 pillars to assess project viability: leverage data-driven decision making.

Develop and report on long-term forecasting recommendations to Leadership.

Develop growth strategies to enhance financial sustainability, while maintaining excellent care standards.

Negotiate agreements and contracts to maximize profitability.

Collaborate with internal teams; achieve close collaboration to enhance overall business performance.
Business Development

Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, ensuring alignment with the Hospital’s mission and community healthcare objectives, contributing to a comprehensive, centralized healthcare framework

Cultivate and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including the MOHLTC and other government and regulatory bodies, private-sector partners, and community organizations

Work with Finance Department on an audit of approved business development initiatives to ensure that each initiative tracks as per business case and approved timelines

Provide regular updates to the Planning and Finance sub-Committee of the Board
Criminal Check

What we are looking for
Education

Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Health Administration, Business Administration or Life Sciences)

MHA, MBA, or equivalent is strongly preferred
Experience

Minimum 7-10 years in strategic planning and business development roles in the healthcare field, at both the local and regional level

Proven track record in shaping long-term strategies, negotiation skills and collaboration with stakeholders

Demonstrated experience with ministry agencies (federal, provincial) and Ontario Health or equivalent
