Our client is a a family-owned real estate company with a close-knit team of 16 people. They manage a diverse portfolio of commercial properties and pride ourselves on being agile, unconventional, and forward-thinking. The team thrives on hands-on, proactive individuals who value both autonomy and accountability. They are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Property Accountant with 1–2 years of experience to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone early in their accounting career who is looking to develop their expertise in the commercial real estate industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial properties
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports
- Reconcile bank accounts, tenant ledgers, intercompany accounts
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including tenant invoicing and collections
- Support property managers with budget monitoring and variance analysis
- Assist with GST filings and year-end audit preparation
- Maintain general ledger and contribute to ongoing process improvements
- Participate in onboarding and training during off-peak months (June–August)
Qualifications:
- 1+ years of accounting experience; real estate or property accounting preferred
- Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance; CPA in progress is an asset
- Hands-on, self-starter attitude with strong attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and take initiative
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of accounting/property software a plus (e.g., Yardi, Sage 300, QuickBooks)
