Site Medical Director & Chief of Staff, SPH (100-2384)
The Site Medical Director & Chief of Staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital is a leadership position with two functions: As Site Medical Director, the position works in a co-leadership model with the Site Director to ensure integrated, high quality service delivery within the site. As Chief of Staff, the position links directly with Department Heads and Division Heads to monitor and enhance medical governance within the site. This position reports to both an Executive Medical Director and an Executive Director.
Main responsibilities of this position:
- Leadership: Co-leads and oversees activities to ensure service delivery is integrated within the site; Links with appropriate Departmental Medical Leaders to address matters of physician governance, including professional medical practice issues.
- Operations & Quality: Co-monitors site performance with a focus on issues that arise between programs, and facilitates course corrections when necessary; Ensures appropriate investigation and resolution of site-related PSLS and PCQO events; Collaborates with Departmental Medical Leaders and Medical Affairs to address individual practitioner quality issues.
- Change Management: Co-develops and implements change management plans to engage and support site physicians and staff through change.
- Informatics: Oversees activities that advance technology and data use to improve service delivery using the electronic health records (EHR) in collaboration with the Quality Systems team.
- Planning: Assesses, monitors and anticipates site resource needs and works with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.
Additional specific deliverables are available upon request from the Medical Staff Recruitment Office. The position is compensated annually via a service contract.

The Saanich Peninsula, the farm and food shopping basket of the South Island, extends north from Victoria to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, a quick half-hour drive on the multi-lane Highway 17 (aka the Pat Bay Highway), or hit the backroads to see rolling farmland, vineyards, home studios, and exquisite valley views.
The District of North Saanich is home to the Victoria International Airport and a ferry terminal in Swartz Bay (BC Ferries to Vancouver and the Gulf Islands).
Brentwood Bay is perched at the edge of the kayak-friendly Saanich Inlet not far from The Butchart Gardens, a floral wonderland in a reclaimed limestone quarry that has welcomed visitors since 1904.
Not far from the airport and ferry terminal off the Pat Bay Highway, Sidney has evolved over the last few decades from a sleepy residential haven into a charming, pedestrian- and bike-friendly destination for shopping, dining, and leisurely strolls by the sea. Visit the kid-friendly Aquarium of the Salish Sea at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, catch a show at the Mary Winspear Centre, embark on a whale-watching expedition, or get active when exploring the town’s two artificial reefs on a diving adventure or by renting a kayak and paddling across to Sidney Spit in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.
