Position Summary

BCIT’s School of Health Sciences is currently seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) and a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) Simulation Technician II to join their team. The temporary contract is set to conclude on May 22, 2026.

This role is complex and requires flexibility, creativity and excellent organization and time management skills. The Simulation Technologist’s responsibilities are based on concepts of experiential learning and simulation-based education. This role is responsible for providing support services to simulation faculty including the set-up and breakdown of simulation scenarios and basic troubleshooting of simulation equipment and technologies. The Simulation Technologist has a basic understanding of simulation-based education and healthcare equipment and terminology. Due to the advancement of simulation technologies, it is important for this role to demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares, assembles, and disassembles equipment for practical application in simulation work;
  • Tests new apparatus, technology and equipment;
  • Takes responsibility for the care and cleaning of machinery, equipment and supplies and may recommend to the Program/Department the purchase of new equipment;
  • As required by BCIT, actively participates in the inventory process to ensure that equipment is properly accounted for on the inventory list;
  • Effects repairs on simulation apparatus and equipment;
  • Attends Program/Department meetings;
  • May assist in the preparation of audio-visual technologies and equipment;
  • Performs such other related work as may be required, consistent with the foregoing Characteristic Duties and Job Summary

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Simulation Technologist or Laboratory Assistant plus one additional year of appropriate post-secondary education; or
  • Diploma of Technology or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of healthcare equipment and terminology, including simulation-based education preferred
