About the role
Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Maple Ridge requires an Assistant to work with elementary and high school students in a hybrid classroom and online environment. Assistants will have excellent academic reading, writing, verbal communication and numeracy skills (math and reading testing may be required) and good ability to assess academic needs of students through observation.
Assistants must have strong grasp of general mathematical concepts up to Grade 12.
Assistants will also have excellent command of the English language both written and verbal and be able to guide students through reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and grammar exercises. Knowledge of phonics and early learning literacy an asset.
Assistants will have a fluent working knowledge of Google Drive, Google Sheets and Zoom and be comfortable guiding students in an in-person and virtual classroom.
Assistants must be willing to undergo a criminal record search and vulnerable sector screen.
Classroom Assistants will also have minimum one year experience working / volunteering with students in a classroom / group environment and be committed to working with students to develop their full potential.
Assistants must be adaptable, dependable, efficient and willing to learn new curriculum within a short time-frame. Candidates must be available to work limited, part-time hours year round on the following days: Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. / Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. (start times are flexible).
