About the role

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Centre for Health Care Research & Innovation, the Schlegel Research Chair & Research Lead, Interprofessional Learning and Practice in Aging, will meet the objectives and strategic planning of aging-specific research at the Centre for Health Care Research & Innovation. This includes the implementation of a strategic plan to apply for funding, conduct funded project activities, evaluation and reporting.

Specifically, with a clinical and/or healthcare background, specialization in aging, congregate living and interprofessional team development, the incumbent will provide knowledge and expertise to develop funding proposals, study protocol, sampling, data collection, data analysis, interpretation, manuscript, report writing in this area and driving research in this space. The Research Lead will advance research on interprofessional team development, with a specific focus on organizational learning, training and simulation, with the overarching goal of improving teamwork between disciplines and improving the quality of life and care for older adults. Drawing from robust industry experience, the Research Lead will have an advanced understanding of the current state of the healthcare workforce and interprofessional team approach to care. The incumbent will build on a network of contacts for community and industry stakeholders, policy-makers and experts in gerontological research.

The Research Lead will hold a Schlegel Research Chair in Interprofessional Learning and Practice in Aging with the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA). The position entails research to be conducted at Conestoga College and the RIA. As a Schlegel Research Chair, the incumbent will collaborate with fellow RIA researchers, leverage RIA’s infrastructure and fulfill service requirements, such as public engagement, presentations and education. The Research Lead is expected to initiate new interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with scholars and partners both within and outside the Conestoga and RIA community.

The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with three days on-site at the Doon Campus in Kitchener and two days remote. Flexibility in scheduling is required as there may occasionally be a need for more days on-site. Hours of work are 8:30am-4:30pm but is subject to change. Weekend and evening work may be occasionally required to meet project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning of project activities based on the theme of interprofessional learning and practice in aging
  • Lead the implementation, evaluation and reporting for aging-specific applied research projects under the direction of the Director according to established reporting guidelines and aligned with best practices for conducting research
  • Work with the Director to seek and apply to new funding opportunities
  • Build and maintain relationships with the Research Institute for Aging network of researchers as well as industry organizations by attending meetings, events and contributing to aging-related research
  • Lead the preparation of knowledge translation products such as manuscripts, conference submissions, lay summary documents, reports, etc.
  • Train students and faculty in conducting aging-related research and evaluation
  • Engage with prospective external partners and collaborators in applied research projects under the direction of the Director

Qualifications

  • PhD in health or a related field of study is required
  • Minimum nine years of industry experience in aging research, long-term care, retirement or congregate living working with clinicians, interprofessional teams and older adults is required
  • Clinician background (e.g. Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Allied Health) is strongly preferred
  • Established record of peer-reviewed publications and other formats of dissemination
  • Evidence of being a member of interdisciplinary research teams
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and teaching healthcare workforce education, including simulation
  • Evidence of providing scholarly reviews for accredited journals and conferences
  • Record of sustained awards/grants as principal investigator and co-investigator
  • Evidence of commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in research
  • Experience supervising and mentoring students
  • Strong administrative skills
