Sanitation Lead Hand
Arla Foods Inc., a leading manufacturer of Specialty cheeses, with International market dominance, has an exciting opportunity for a results-driven Sanitation Lead Hand who enjoys working in a fast paced environment. The Opportunity:
To help lead and coordinate the Sanitation team to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the sanitation department meeting all customer service expectations. This is a working lead hand role with you will work side-by-side along with the team that you lead.
The selected candidates will be located in our Concord Dairy (675 Rivermede Road, Concord ON) and will perform the full time role of Production Lead Hand on night shift (7:30pm-5am).
Responsibilities:
- Provide direction and guidance to personnel by assigning daily work activities, ensuring proper follow up and adherence to company standards, and providing input into performance appraisals as required
- Support the Supervisor in leading, coaching, and developing the team by providing feedback and input to formal evaluations
- Assist with scheduling, line changes, shift start activities, machinery, and making adjustments to equipment or machinery
- Validate that pre-operational usage of sanitation equipment & chemicals
- Assist the Supervisor in training new staff or temporary agency personnel, ensuring measurables for Quality, Safety, HACCP, GMP and SOP’s are understood and followed
- Address employee questions or concerns in a timely and positive manner, elevating concerns to the Supervisor when necessary
- Meet regularly with Supervisor to discuss daily and forward sanitation improvement planning and ideas
- Perform detailed equipment after cleaning inspections to ensure SSOP compliance
- Assist Supervisor with workforce planning & scheduling overtime personnel and work activities
- Conduct daily chemical titrations and ensure the Cleaning & Sanitation records are accurately completed (where applicable)
- Troubleshoot equipment and perform basic repairs while advising maintenance personnel for more significant repairs
- Act as a floater, as required, to help support sanitation requirements
- Maintain and enforce good housekeeping and hygiene habits in all work areas
- Maintain extensive knowledge of production, packaging, and warehousing operational requirements
- Identify and eliminate any unsafe conditions or workplace hazards if possible in a safe manner
- Support and promote the company goal of “Zero tolerance of injuries in our workplace” and report any unsafe working conditions or accidents as required, by completing the required accident reporting documentation
- Support and participate in any company tasks or project teams concerning standards of product quality and workmanship
- Ensure all personnel perform required safety and quality checks and record appropriate data as required
- Monitor & ensure all personnel work in a safe manner at all times including the use of proper P.P.E.
- Support LEAN implementation and ensure engagement from everyone within departments
- Ensure personnel are present at work and report any absences immediately to the Supervisor
Basic Job Requirements:
- Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal)
- Must be detail-oriented, organized and capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment
- Good problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to provide operating expertise and guidance to production employees
- Exceptional attention to detail & safety
Education & Experience Required:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Food Manufacturing Sanitation
- Experience in a Lead Hand (or equivalent) leadership role
- Strong mechanical or technical abilities
- Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite) required; SAP (or ERP) experience preferred
- Working Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations required
- Completion of secondary school
- First-Aid Training preferred
