About the role

Help people create homes they love. Join the Urban Barn team as an Accountant at our Head Office, located in Burnaby, BC. With over 50 retail stores across the country, Urban Barn is a national retail chain offering high-quality furniture and home décor. Reporting to the Controller, you will be responsible for providing accurate and efficient support to our Finance team.

  • This is an in-office position Monday-Thursday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Friday's.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare daily reconciliation reports.
  • Compare and reconcile end-of-day reports from cash registers, payment systems, and ERP.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, making appropriate adjustments to the general ledger or sales orders.
  • Liaise with departments (stores, regional managers, and banks) to validate and correct discrepancies, escalating unresolved issues as needed.
  • Review and maintain all customer accounts and make necessary adjustments.
  • Process customer refund cheques.
  • Support month-end and year-end tasks as required.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Support departmental needs for special projects.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring

  • A degree or diploma in Accounting/Finance, or equivalent experience (an asset).
  • Previous experience in accounting, including but not limited to reconciliations, accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable.
  • Excellent MS Excel skills.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse personalities.
  • A positive, energetic attitude and a passion for being part of a hardworking team in a fun environment.
