Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace Campus, invites applications for a full-time continuing Senior Information Technology (IT) Technician commencing as soon as possible. A flexible schedule is required as some evening and weekend work may be required. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Scale, Level 17: $3,196.90 biweekly plus a comprehensive benefit plan.

Duties: This position will provide technical support for the data/networking, computer hardware and software, telephone, telecommunications equipment, LAN/WAN/Internet communications for the College.

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a Tier 2 escalation point for CSA staff by resolving complex technical issues related to hardware, software, and network services.
  • Support and mentor CSA staff, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.
  • Provide advanced end-user support and instruction on IT Systems, networking, applications, and IT tools.
  • Assess and resolve user technology needs across assigned campus locations.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain a wide range of IT equipment, including desktops, laptops, AV systems, and peripherals.
  • Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for educational technology equipment.
  • Research, test, and implement software and hardware solutions to ensure alignment with College infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain automated processes for software deployment, updates, and configuration using appropriate tools and scripting methods.
  • Collaborate with IT team members to standardize deployment packages and streamline installation workflows for labs, staff, and shared devices.
  • Utilize Beyond Trust remote support tools to securely diagnose and resolve user issues, ensuring compliance with access control policies and audit practices.
  • Collaborate with the senior infrastructure team on the design, implementation, and support of LAN/WAN environments across campuses.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to obtain specifications and conduct cost-benefit analysis for IT procurement.
  • Monitor and respond to security events on local systems and endpoints by identifying vulnerabilities, applying remediation, and correcting operational issues that affect system integrity or performance.
  • Lead and maintain local patch management processes, ensuring timely deployment of updates and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Apply and manage endpoint security controls (e.g., antivirus, secure baselines) and maintain secure configurations on all assigned IT assets.
  • Work closely with the Security Analyst and infrastructure teams (server and networking) to align endpoint protection, patching, and security standards with a unified cybersecurity strategy.
  • Perform other related duties of similar scope and complexity as assigned.

Qualifications

A diploma (degree preferred) in Information Technology or related field along with 4 years of related work experience. Assets include CompTIA A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or related role-based credentials are also beneficial. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Proven skills and experience with combination of the following must be demonstrated:

  • Strong skills and knowledge in supporting a mixed environment running Windows Servers and Desktops
  • Proficient with MS Office / O365
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, VolP products, mobility and wireless applications
  • Practical understanding of security issues surrounding information systems and networks
  • Strong trouble-shooting skills with working knowledge of networking peripherals such as NIC’s, switches, Wireless Access Points, Storage Area Networks (SAN), Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills combined with strong time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as within a diverse team-environment
  • A driver’s license is required
