Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a Childcare Worker I for a full-time, 12-month Non-Recurring Term opportunity with the Child Care Centre.
The Child Care Worker I is responsible for providing an environment that encourages the total growth of the children at the Centre: by entering into a relationship with the family of each child; by providing a demonstration of the (ALBERTA CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK) philosophy, program and techniques most appropriate for young children; by demonstrating professional work habits and an awareness of current resources.
Key responsibilities include:
- Showing genuine interest for children’s ideas and feelings;
- Assisting children in problem solving when they need help, using techniques that lead to self-control;
- Protecting the health and safety of all children;
- Demonstrating best early learning practice that support the philosophy and goals of the centre and BECCS program;
- Being open to new ideas, participating collaboratively in the planning and provision of the environment;
- Supporting the development of a safe and inviting environment, adapting it to children’s needs and interests;
- Showing respect and a non-judgmental attitude towards families and their lifestyles and providing continuity between home and centre life for children by delivering a program and environment that is reflective of the child and family;
- Relating to families in a warm and supportive manner, sharing information about the child and their interests;
- Building positive relationships with other staff to ensure a strong supportive and mutually respectful work environment;
- Exploring and discussing pertinent concerns and ideas with relevant staff members; and
- Taking initiative to develop and try new techniques and skills. Showing ongoing development in the areas of child and team development through research, workshops and courses.
SKILLS
You will have:
- The Ability to relate comfortably to children and families;
- Demonstrated a high degree of physical stamina, good physical strength and sound mental health and will be able to identify stressors and personal coping skills;
- Demonstrated flexibility and an ability to adapt to change;
- The willingness to take initiative as situations demand; and
- Proven yourself to be dependable, reliable, and punctual, consistently demonstrating a positive attitude.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of a diploma in Early Learning and Child Care or equivalency which equates to Level II Provincial Certification.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- A minimum of 6 months of working experience with children that demonstrates an ability to carry out the duties required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
