About the role

Position Description

A temporary part time (0.2) TSVI Support Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 2, 2025 until December 19, 2025. The assignment will be at Learning Services.

This short term position will required the successful applicant to work in collaboration with the current TSVI. The successful applicant will implement the plans created by the TSVI. These discussions in regards to the students will occur regularly via Zoom, Microsoft Teams or email. The successful applicant must have their own vehicle and a valid drivers license as they will be required to travel to some rural schools to work with specific students on a weekly basis. The position will required the successful applicant to be flexible in their weekly schedule.

  • Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)

  • Ability to participate in meetings within and beyond the regular school day to support learning

  • Knowledge and experience with district practice for English Language acquisition, learning challenges/disabilities, and inclusion

  • Skills and experience in working with different ethnic groups and families

  • Successful experience using inclusive practices at a variety of grade levels with a strong working knowledge of Language Arts, Numeracy, and Social Responsibility instruction and assessment, as well as instructional practices that support social and emotional learning.

  • Proficient skills to support the learning environment with strategies for UDL, Differentiation of Instruction, Response to Intervention and Formative Assessment.

  • Knowledge and ability to support the development of AIPs and IEPs for students; experience with My Education database

  • Demonstrated use of instructional technology to support all learners

  • Specific experience in language proficiency assessments and reading intervention programs; remedial programs and materials for key academic areas, early reading intervention programs, phonological processing training

  • Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of learning needs

  • Proven skills and understanding of needs such as Learning and Intellectual Disabilities and emotional, social, behavioral and developmental disorders

  • Knowledge and ability to use Positive Behavior Supports, Functional Analysis of Behavior and Collaborative Model of Support processes to develop learning plans

  • Demonstrated commitment to ALL students

  • Experience and knowledge of the dynamics involved in a collaborative, professional and productive learning community at school and district level

  • Knowledge and experience with data driven dialogue, school growth plans, and District Framework for Student Learning

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills to relate well with teachers, students, parents, school-based teams and community members

  • Confidence in working in co-planning, co-teaching, and team-teaching to support a positive learning environment

  • Resourceful, creative, adaptive and organized to work in a variety of different environments, meeting a variety of different needs

  • Proficient with MacIntosh computers

  • ***BEING ABLE TO TRAVEL TO ALL RURAL SCHOOLS IS A NECESSITY***

  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students

  • Excellent Interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills

  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging.

  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn

  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning

  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity

  • TEACHER OF STUDENTS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and experience with ministry and district practice and respect for diversity, independence and inclusion

  • Knowledge of provincial resources and the ability to coordinate supports and services for students with complex needs

  • Solid foundation in the areas of the education of students with visual impairment and child growth and development

  • Knowledge and experience for providing support in areas such as ASD, Developmental Delays, Deafblind, Cerebral Palsy, FASD, and other Complex Developmental Behavioral Challenges

  • Knowledge and expertise in specialized tools and technology for low vision access (eg. braille, enlarged print, eText) or willingness to learn these

  • Excellent Interpersonal relationship building and problem solving skills to engage students, parents, classroom teachers, educational assistants, administrators and community members to ensure student learning and success

  • Knowledge of curriculum and resourceful strategies using the frameworks or RTI and UDL

  • Knowledge and ability to develop IEP's

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.

  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)

  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 to $111,952

  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE.
