NATURE OF WORK

The Analyst provides guidance and support to turn data into actionable insights as part of an overarching strategy to leverage technological solutions and use data to make decisions effectively.

Reporting to the Director of Data Management and Analytics, the analyst collects, analyzes, and mines data stored in CSB’s data warehouse and other sources to create dashboards (data visualization), reports, and other resources etc. for the purpose of understanding student and organizational results and trends.

The analyst works across the CSB acting as a subject matter expert on business intelligence and dashboards. The analyst also acts as a data steward, addressing data quality and gaps.

Role-Specific Responsibilities

Turn data into information and actionable insights by using the CSB’s data warehouse (Microsoft Azure) and other data sources to extract and analyze data, interpret patterns and trends using statistical techniques.

Provide expertise and support to the development of key performance indicators and the development and maintenance of dashboards using Power BI to support the monitoring of metrics and measures.

Provide guidance and support to end users to identify and articulate their information needs and then translate into dashboard and report requirements.

Identify required data elements, extract/transform/load (ETL), develop formulas, ensure proper testing and validation in support of building user-friendly, engaging, and timely dashboards and reports for the Youth Sector, and other stakeholders across the CSB using Microsoft Suite.

Work with the organization for the detection and correction of data-quality issues and collaborate with process owners to establish policies, procedures, and internal controls affecting the quality of data.

Remains abreast of leading practices in related areas. Develops and maintains network and represents CSB in this area, as required.

Obtain and gather information of related projects implemented by other school boards which may be of interest to CSB

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

University degree in a related field, such as Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics;

Proven working experience as a business intelligence analyst / data analyst;

Expert proficiency in querying and reporting from relational databases, trend identification, data visualisation and report writing; Knowledge of GRICS systems is desired (e.g. GPI, Tosca, etc.);

Strong SQL and Power BI skills;

Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel Analytical functions (V LookUp, Pivots, etc.);

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;

Advanced communication skills, from translating end-users request (starting point) to storytelling using different platform (e.g. reports, dashboard, presentation or combination);

Solid knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

Pedagogical management experience is an asset;

Ability to work in both independently (self-motivated and autonomous) work and in a team environment;

Strong communication and problem-solving skills;

Oral and written English is required. Oral French is an important asset;

Cree language is highly desired;

Willingness to travel.

Regular full-time position

35 hr/week.

In accordance with the collective agreement, priority shall be given to beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.

Should no candidate meet the academic qualifications of the posting, the Board may in exceptional circumstances consider years of pertinent experience as equivalence

As an independent First Nation school board recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport, it also develops programs and pedagogical materials in Cree, French and English following Quebec Education Program guidelines.
