Manager, Financial Reporting
About the role
The Manager, Financial Reporting will play a pivotal role in shaping financial reporting at one of Canada’s largest and most diversified infrastructure companies. They will join the Corporate Finance team and play a key role in the preparation and submission of consolidated and standalone financial statements under IFRS and ASPE. Reporting to the Senior Director, Financial Reporting, this is a hands-on, individual contributor role based out of our Markham office, with a standard five-day in-office workweek. It involves maintaining a strong internal control environment to support efficient and reliable financial reporting, consolidating financial data, and establishing accounting policies. The Manager, Financial Reporting will work closely with the Controllers group, and other stakeholders to ensure the timely and accurate presentation of financial information to internal and external parties. You will work on complex and challenging technical issues under IFRS and provide guidance to the Operational Finance teams across all business units in developing and maintaining accounting policies, controls and related processes for quality assurance and effective governance in financial reporting.
Primary Scope of Role
- Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated and standalone financial statements under IFRS and ASPE, while developing and maintaining a robust internal control and risk management framework to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant reporting.
- Take ownership of technical accounting research, including the interpretation of new IFRS standards and preparation of accounting position papers. Partner with operational finance and other internal teams to assess implications and ensure consistent policy application.
- Support corporate transactions, M&A activities, and ad hoc projects with technical accounting analysis and implementation guidance.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and internal stakeholders throughout the audit cycle to ensure efficient coordination and resolution of audit queries.
- Collaborate with internal departments such as Tax, FP&A, and Investor Relations to ensure alignment in financial disclosures and strategic initiatives.
Position Requirements
- CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) with a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of post-designation experience, preferably in public accounting (Big 4) or a complex multi-entity environment.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and ASPE, with demonstrated experience in technical accounting research, policy interpretation, and multi-entity consolidations.
- Experience with M&A accounting, purchase price allocations, and complex transactions is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with JD Edwards (JDE) and Workiva is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across departments and seniority levels.
- Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
