The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information
Your position would be located at the Yellowknife Airport and report to the Supervisor, Surface Structures. You will be responsible for implementing and planning maintenance services repair program for all airport surfaces and drainage systems. The Airfield Maintenance Specialist (AMS) contributes to the safe and reliable operation of the Yellowknife Airport and the safe passage of the traveling public by maintaining the airport surfaces in operating condition. This includes clearing and maintaining runways, taxiways, aprons and roads, drainage systems and security fencing.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of airport operations and procedures for maintenance of airport facilities, such as snow and ice control.
- Knowledge of runway conditions under all types of weather, such as snow, ice, rain, freezing rain, and frost.
- Knowledge of Airport Maintenance Management System.
- Ability to commit to actively upholding and consistently practicing personal diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness, as well as safety and sensitivity approaches in the workplace.
Education and Experience.
Three (3) years experience operating a loader, grader, skid steer, and plow truck in a maintenance program.
Equivalencies.
Five (5) years' experience as an equipment operator in any environment which would include experience operating Forklifts, Water/Sewer Trucks, Fuel Truck, Airfield Service Equipment or Street Sweepers.
