What to expect in the role:
This position will be working with individua with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Supporting this individual to complete household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and accompanying them to places such as local parks. The role requires driving as a core duty, ensuring transportation around the city to one or two activities while maintaining a safe and supportive environment for the client's growth and enjoyment. Additionally, the candidate must foster a positive atmosphere at the client’s home, offering guidance and creating a space where the client can thrive. The individual enjoys engaging in discussions, so attentive listening and patience are essential qualities. The team environment may involve schedule changes, outdoor activities, low-light settings at the client’s home, and regular team meetings, which require adaptability. This role may challenge those who prefer highly structured routines. Comfort in supporting a legally blind client around the house is also necessary, along with flexibility and a nurturing approach.

Schedule & Pay:
The position offers a rate of $200 per 24-hour shift, with a schedule of Saturday morning to Monday morning. The shift details or rotation specifics, such as a potential 2- to 3-week switch, can be clarified further based on the role's requirements

Home Environment:
Your home can be located anywhere throughout the city as long as it is transit accessible. The individual prefers not to live in a home with young children and big family. Privacy is important for the individual and a bedroom on a separate floor or away from the busier parts of the home is preferred. The client does have a work bench for various projects he works on that he would need space for.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Diploma or Certificate in the Human Services field or Disability Sector
  • Must have valid class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
  • Must know to swim
  • Provide Home insurance and Commercial Liability insurance
  • One to two years relevant experience in the human services field
  • Intermediate in computer skills
  • Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
  • Willing to make appropriate modifications for the individual’s access requirements in the home
  • Home visit & assessment required

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with seniors would be an asset
  • Previously trained in and have experience with medication administration
  • Other current and relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
  • Additional training requirements may include Mental Health First Aid
