About the role

We are Parallel 49 Brewing Company, a craft brewery based in the heart of East Vancouver. We were founded in 2012 by passionate craft beer enthusiasts and have quickly become a staple in the Canadian craft beer scene. We are looking for skilled and interesting people with great attitudes to complement our team while we remain a top employer in Vancouver and the craft beer industry.

As the sole People & Culture/Human Resources professional, the People & Culture Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping Parallel 49 Brewing Company’s workplace culture and ensuring HR policy and processes align with our strategic direction and company values. This is a dynamic position, offering full cycle HR support to managers and employees from all areas of the business from manufacturing, professional services, sales and hospitality.

This is a full-time, temporary, one year contract position with a possibility of extension. The position will be in office during the probationary period and after that hybrid work is availible on the schedule of Monday and Friday remote and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office.

Duties and Responsibilities

HR Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with company objectives and promote a positive work culture.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify HR needs and provide strategic guidance on talent management and employee engagement.

Employee Development:

  • Design and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills and support career growth.
  • Facilitate performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback, and performance reviews.

Employee Relations:

  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees, addressing concerns, providing guidance, and resolving conflicts.
  • Promote a culture of open communication and collaboration.
  • Responsible for the HR aspects of the entire employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding.

Labour Relations:

  • Serve as employer representative for the Parallel 49 Brewing Employee Association union.
  • Provide expertise navigating labour relations situations including leading the grievance and collective bargaining processes.
  • Serve as the expert on the collective bargaining agreement and ensure compliance.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Manage compensation programs, ensuring they are competitive and aligned with industry standards.
  • Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.

Compliance and Policies:

  • Stay current with labor laws and regulations, ensuring company policies and practices remain compliant.
  • Develop and update HR policies and procedures to reflect best practices and legal requirements.

Workplace Culture:

  • Champion a positive and inclusive workplace culture that values diversity and promotes employee engagement.
  • Plan and coordinate employee engagement activities, team-building events, and recognition programs.

HR Administration:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR documentation.
  • Manage the company’s HRIS ADP.
  • Responsible for benefits administration including extended health and RRSP.
  • Prepare HR reports and metrics for management review.

Talent Acquisition:

  • Manage the full cycle of recruitment, including job posting, interviewing, and onboarding new employees.
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions, ensuring they accurately reflect role responsibilities and expectations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years progressive HR experience as an HR generalist or in a similar role is required.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively manage HR initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in HR software (ADP) and Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • Experience practicing HR in a production, manufacturing or hospitality environment is an asset.
  • Experience practicing HR in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Passion for craft beer is an asset.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • CPHR designation is preferred but not required.
