About the role

This position is part of the Facilities team and is responsible for general maintenance duties, building repairs, snow removal, grounds care and other related activities. This role works closely with departments across YW and requires cross-collaboration, adaptability, initiative and a solution focused approach.

This position is a full-time permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with additional on-call rotation. Some evening or weekend work may be required based on operational need.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Perform a wide range of maintenance tasks including painting, drywall, cabinets repairs, baseboard installation, minor plumbing electrical work and other repair work, using appropriate YW equipment.
  • Complete regular daily walk-throughs of indoor and outdoor common areas to ensure the property is optimally and professionally maintained and in good working order. Note and attend to minor and major maintenance fixes or damage.
  • Manage the upkeep of parking areas, grounds and patios including snow and ice removal.
  • General custodial duties as required such as loading dock support and heavy garbage removal.
  • Assist with furniture, equipment and supply moves.
  • Support Building Operators with preventative maintenance of heating, cooling, and air handling equipment as well as mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, fans, and heating coils.
  • Monitor and respond to work requests in a detailed and timely manner; communicate expected timelines of completion as required.
  • Use Work Management Systems to communicate regular updates with team.
  • Liaise with various contractors and ensure the required repairs are performed.
  • Independently troubleshoot problems and collaborate with team members to find solutions.
  • Maintain general understanding of relevant Building Management Systems.
  • Other related duties assigned by the Facilities Supervisor or Manager.

  • Understand and remain current with YW Calgary Health, Safety and Wellness policies, practices and protocols and ensure work is performed in alignment with YW’s culture.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ working experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with light trade work (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, locksmith, etc.).
  • Solid experience with plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work with hardware tools and power equipment.
  • Extremely organized with good communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Ability to operate snow removal equipment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • WHMIS and valid First Aid certification.
  • Experience working in all weather elements, both inside and outside facilities.
  • This role is physically strenuous, requires lifting up to 50 lbs, moving office furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Requires a clear Police and Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.
