Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. The Facilities Engineering & Asset Management Department is looking for a Site Plan & Drawing Coordinator to provide design, maintenance and construction assurance reviews, standards development, and occasional CAD services related to Metrolinx’ Civil Engineering Assurance Program. This role will report to the Manager, Civil Engineering Assurance.
What will I be doing?
- Reviewing consultant designs for Metrolinx Infrastructure projects (new builds, retrofits, rehabilitations, etc.) to ensure conformance with the Metrolinx Design Requirements Manual (DRM), drafting standards, Metrolinx Design Standards, and regulatory requirements, including the Ontario Building Code, Association of Ontario Disability Act, Water Resources Act, etc.
- Researching, developing, and recommending Metrolinx Standards Updates and procedures and technical training requirements.
- Visiting Metrolinx sites to complete design, maintenance, and construction assurance reviews to understand existing site conditions, maintenance activities and construction progress and deficiencies and/or asset condition and performance.
- Preparing maps, plans and figures associated with Metrolinx-owned facilities that may include facility layouts, parking, signage, bus loop and pick up drop off area configurations, transportation movements (swept path analysis), site servicing infrastructure, and maintenance operations.
- Attending virtual and in-person meetings and coordinating requests from internal and external stakeholders.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized College or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of civil design (site development) or civil construction.
- A university degree in Civil Engineering would consider an asset.
- Decent experience related to the planning, design and construction of commuter facilities, Industrial Commercial Institutional facilities or site plans, residential subdivisions or municipal infrastructure and interpreting contract plans and specifications.
- Thorough knowledge of site development design principles, and practices.
- Experience on traffic engineering, stormwater management, structural engineering, building sciences and/or land development would be an asset.
- Experience with design examination would be an asset.
- Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD as well as working experience in ArcGIS, BIM, MicroStation would be an asset.
- Decent knowledge of drafting theory, principles and practices.
- Ability to obtain job related certifications, as required.
- Excellent drawing skills, ability to work independently and strong analytical ability are a must.
- Good working knowledge of time and project management including scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate policies, and procedures.
- Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work.
