The City of Greater Sudbury is looking for a Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications to lead transformative projects, elevate our communications strategy, and drive meaningful change across our community. We are seeking a visionary leader with a passion for public service, strategic innovation, and impactful communication.
What You’ll Do:
As Director of Strategic Initiatives & Communications, you will be a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the CAO. You will lead a diverse portfolio that includes strategic initiatives and corporate communications at a strategic level. This is a high-impact role where you will shape and execute initiatives that align with Council’s vision and the City’s long-term priorities.
You will:
- Champion strategic initiatives that drive transformation and continuous improvement across the organization.
- Oversee high-profile projects, including equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, and policy development.
- Build strong partnerships with Council, the Mayor’s Office, and all levels of government to advance CGS’s interests.
- Foster a high-performing, inclusive, and empowered team culture.
What You Bring:
- A degree in Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
- 8+ years of senior leadership experience in complex, unionized environments.
- Deep knowledge of organizational leadership, change management, operational excellence, government relations, project management and public engagement.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, and deliver results.
- Strong political acuity, strategic thinking, and a customer-first mindset.
- Bilingualism in French is highly desirable.

Salary and Additional Benefits
The range of pay for this position is $148,790.88 to $175,227.57 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive health benefits plan (100% employer paid), OMERS pension plan, life insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, plus more. We offer the flexibility to work remotely on a part-time basis, along with a supportive work environment that promotes work-life integration.
