Position Summary

Reporting to the Patient Services Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role will support and enhance an interprofessional team model inclusive of the NP scope of practice within the Maternal Child Program. The NP primary roles will include MRP for well-newborns with no primary care practitioner or those whose primary care practitioner does not have hospital privileges and outpatient newborn follow-up in the hyperbilirubinemia clinic. Areas of clinical competency include clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. The NP will work in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interprofessional team practicing in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards. The NP will provide leadership and assist with professional development of team members through participation in education initiatives. The NP will also play a significant role in the education of patients and families as well as provide direct comprehensive care to the patient population. The NP will work in partnership with interprofessional team members to implement a collaborative model within the acute care setting that will positively impact the patient experience.

Required

  • Completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) – Nurse Practitioner.

  • Current registration in the Extended Class (RN-EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

  • Minimum of five years’ recent experience in an acute care setting with demonstrated progressive clinical expertise.

  • Current certification in BCLS, or proof of enrolment in a recertification course. You will be asked to provide a copy of your valid certificate at the time of hire/transfer.

Preferred

  • Newborn experience an asset
  • Familiarity with Meditech and electronic documentation information system

Duties

  • MRP for newborns on the Mother-Baby Unit
  • Provide well-newborn assessments
  • Provide outpatient newborn follow-up for hyperbilirubinemia as required
  • Promote evidenced based best practice to improve the quality of care and patient experience for newborns and their families
  • Promote optimal allocation of resources
  • Function as an expert practitioner who provides for the clinical needs of patients either directly or as a resource by providing consultation or advice indirectly to support staff
  • Collaborates within the departmental/program team on quality improvement and safety initiatives and staff development activities
  • Promote collaborative team relationships and effective communication amongst interprofessional team members and act as liaison with other departments to problem solve and ensure effective communication flow
  • Assist in evaluating patient care outcomes and staff performance in achieving these outcomes
