About the role

As a public safety administrative authority, Ontario One Call (OOC) administers the Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act 2012 and plays a vital role in protecting the public from harm and damage to underground infrastructure. The guidance of its Board of Directors is integral to OOC’s ability to support members, excavators and stakeholders.

OOC is committed to diversity and inclusion; building and maintaining collaborative, caring and positive work environments, so that our employees bring their whole selves to work each and every day. This commitment is extended to the Board of Directors, and we are actively seeking to compose a Board reflective of the diversity of the Ontarians we serve and work with. In accordance with the Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, OOC is pleased to offer accommodations for applicants with disabilities; if you require accommodations, please advise during the application process.

About Ontario One Call’s Board of Directors

The Board’s main role is to govern OOC and set its strategic direction. Working to ensure OOC has financial sustainability, sound policy development, and proper visioning, the Board provides oversight to ensure staff are empowered to guide the organization.

OOC has a 12-member Board of Directors comprised of 8 elected directors and 4 ministerially-appointed directors. Elected directors are leaders representing our Members, the excavation community, and community safety and consumer interest partners. Elected directors are typically elected to serve for three-year terms and may be re-elected to serve successive terms totaling 9 years. Should an elected director leave mid-term, the Board will strive to fill the vacancy with a representative of the same group (ex. member or excavator) for the remainder of the term.

Ontario One Call currently has a full slate of directors. The Board has vetted those elected directors whose current terms are coming to an end, and has confirmed they are willing to stand for re-election. In keeping with its by-laws and commitment to transparency and good governance, Ontario One Call is issuing this Open Call for Nominations in advance of the Annual Meeting (AM). This process ensures that eligible individuals may be considered and put forward by the HRGN Committee and the Board to stand as candidates for election by the membership at the AM. Individuals who express interest may also be considered to fill future vacancies, if and when they arise, in accordance with the Board’s procedures.

Eligibility:

  • The nominee must be an active leader in the province of Ontario.
  • The nominee may be from a Member, Excavator or Other category of representative.
  • If currently employed, your employer must be supportive of the investment of time and interest that all OOC directors make, including attending board meetings (virtual and in person at the call of the Chair) scheduled throughout the year and participating in board committees and/or task forces (typically 10 meetings annually).
  • The nominee must have a combination of skills and experience that equip them to serve on the board. The Board is particularly looking to add members with information management (technology) and/or risk legal experience.
  • To improve representation from across the province of Ontario, the ideal nominee would work/live in Northern Ontario.

Process:

  • We are seeking applications by 4:00pm, Wednesday, August 6, 2025
    • Applications must be submitted through the OOC Careers Website (Click ‘Apply’) and must include a cover letter, resume and completed application form.
  • Applications will be reviewed by the HRGN Committee and panel interviews will be conducted as required with the most suitable candidates.
  • Successful candidates are required to complete a background check including criminal activity, bankruptcy and professional experience.
  • New Board Directors will be provided with a thorough orientation and education session, prior to attending their first meeting of the Board.

We thank all applicants for their interest; however only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

About Ontario One Call

Construction
51-200

Established in 1996, Ontario One Call is a not-for-profit organization that acts as a communications link between buried infrastructure owners (our members) and individuals who are planning to dig in the province of Ontario. In 2012, the Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act was passed, which stipulates that by law, anyone in the province of Ontario must contact Ontario One Call before they dig.

Though Ontario One Call does not physically mark the lines, pipes, or cables, we relay all dig information to the buried infrastructure owners so they can mark (locate) based on the request you submit. Buried infrastructure owners will then deliver locates, by marking the property with paint and/or sending paperwork directly to you. Locates minimize the risk of infrastructure damage, loss of service, and injury.
