About the role

Open Door Group (ODG), a trailblazing non-profit organization serving communities across Canada, is looking for an Activity Worker to join our team!

Salary: $27.92 per hour (Grid 21, step 2)

Status: Part-Time, Permanent

Hours of Work: 18 Hours per week

Location: The primary work location for this position will be the Open Door Gardengate location in Kamloops, BC.

Your Role:

Open Door Group’s Gardengate Program is an innovative horticulture program that offers programming and volunteer opportunities to individuals living with addictions or mental health conditions. The partnership between the Kamloops Food Policy Council and Open Door Group has enabled this unique program to promote healthy living and life skills development through learning.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Activity Worker will implement established activities to meet clients’ activation, life skills, recreational, and social needs, and assists clients with activities of daily living as required.

What you bring to the position:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
  • Ability to instruct.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to do, various arts and crafts, handicrafts, and sports activities.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Completion of a Peer Support or Activity Assistant Program.
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
  • Certificates in CPR and First Aid.
  • Recent, related experience of one year.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
