About The Position The overall responsibility of the laboratory analyst includes independently conducts routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Operate and perform maintenance on AAS, ICP-AES and/or ICP-MS instruments;
  • Identify & correct QC related problems by ensuring the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards;
  • Evaluate data using instrument software and GEMS;
  • Use Microsoft Word & Excel to create written reports;
  • Prepare sample dilutions, instrument operating solutions and calibration standards;
  • Test and evaluate calibration standards;
  • Ensure all prepared and available samples are accounted for in the lab;
  • Prioritize workloads according to daily stats and turnaround commitments;
  • Follow all SOPs and quality work instructions;
  • Maintain and organize inventory of calibration standards, production logs and equipment records;
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns to the Supervisor or Manager.
  • Act as backup to the shift lead hand;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills;
  • Quality focused individual;
  • Organized, highly motivated, detail oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Strong MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Required Qualifications

  • Recognized Diploma or Degree in Science required, with a concentration in Chemistry preferred, or completion of the BC Assayers certification program required;
  • Minimum of 1 years of laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, instrumentation or a related field required;

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift filled 20 litre containers (45 lb);
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.

  • An estimated hourly pay of $23.45 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
