About the role

Participate in meaningful work

Visitor Services works to increase public awareness of and engagement with the Legislative Assembly and Alberta’s democratic system through public and education programs. We are currently seeking to hire an Education Program Assistant.

As an Education Program Assistant you will be responsible for undertaking research and development within approved strategies and delivering online and in-person tours and programs for School at the Legislature and for other education audiences while supporting the initiatives of the Visitor Services team and the Legislative Assembly Office (LAO).

In this position you will be a representative of the LAO, engaging visitors in an exceptional experience, projecting a positive, professional, and nonpartisan attitude along with a commitment to providing visitor/client-centered service.

Contribute to an engaged workplace

The keys to success in this role are your interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and ability to communicate to a diverse audience. You are able to deliver structured programming in English and, ideally, French for a variety of education audiences by organizing, presenting, and developing materials related to concepts of parliamentary democracy, citizenship, and Alberta history.

You work independently using sound judgment coupled with tact and diplomacy to solve problems which may arise without immediate access to supervisory support. You are highly organized and bring strong planning and administrative skills.

You are also comfortable doing a generous amount of walking and other physical activities when required.

Bring your excellence to the LAO

Your qualifications include a degree or two-year diploma in history, political science, museum studies, fine arts, or education. You bring related experience in active visitor engagement, specifically public speaking, guiding public tours or school tours, tourism delivery, or similar activities.

You have a knowledge of parliamentary process, the history of Alberta, and current events. You also bring a familiarity with professional office practices and standard software and equipment.

Bilingual applicants are strongly preferred.

Why choose the LAO

We are offering a salaried, full-time ongoing position in a skilled, diverse and united workforce, where employees feel engaged, supported, safe, respected, and valued. The monthly salary range for this position is $4,051.11 to $4,949.82, dependent on qualifications. We support your career development throughout your time with us at the LAO.

Our comprehensive benefits package includes health and dental options you can choose based on your needs and alter annually at Choice Point time and an annual Health Spending Account to supplement your coverage.

We value employee wellness and work-life balance. The LAO starts all salaried employees at 15 days of vacation per year and provides a variety of leaves for life events. All employees can access the free and confidential Employee and Family Assistance Program. We organize wellness initiatives and engage with employees on physical, mental, financial, and organizational health matters.

To apply for this position, please submit your resumé and a cover letter highlighting your relevant experience to hr@assembly.ab.ca . The deadline for applications is July 11, 2025. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.

About Legislative Assembly of Alberta

Legislative Offices

The Legislative Assembly is the focal point of our democratic process. It is responsible for the passing of laws, the approval of policies and the development of programs, all of which affect our way of life in Alberta.

Legislative Assembly Office employees provide nonpartisan, procedural, administrative and educational services to the Members of the Legislative Assembly and the public.

Established in 1983, the origins of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly Office can be traced back to 14th-century England, when Parliament elected the first Speaker and appointed the first Clerk. The Legislative Assembly Office works hard to uphold and abide by parliamentary tradition while at the same time ensuring our operations are run in a nonpartisan manner and respond to the needs of the Members we serve. The Legislative Assembly Office is a unique entity separate from government with the dedication and commitment to provide all Members of the Legislative Assembly, regardless of party affiliation, with the support they need to represent and serve their constituents.
