The Toronto office is looking for a Senior Lead Architect to join their growing team in a full-time permanent position.
Role Description:
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of a variety of exciting projects in GTA and Nationally, coordinating in person and remotely with a talented staff and a team of consultants to ensure projects progress at every stage.
With a focus on national growth of RVA’s Architecture division, you will be responsible for business development, developing new clients, developing new markets, new prospects tracking, proposal preparation, as required to grow our business and grow the group compliment.
Most importantly, the Senior Lead Architect will work closely with clients to develop a full understanding of their needs and expectations while ensuring that the final design is cost-effective while also maintaining the integrity of their vision.
Business Development and Project Management:
- Lead Business Development initiatives and pursue work with new and existing clients, through active involvement with professional associations, attending events, developing and maintaining client base, including participation in client presentations and identifying and tracking prospects.
- Lead the preparation of proposal submissions together with the Proposal Team, including strategizing for winning approach, technical writing and planning.
- Comply with accepted project management methodology; document and manage project team members, scope, work effort, budget, cost controls, schedules, etc.
- Prioritize, manage, and work on multiple projects and deadlines, as required.
Design and Technical Abilities:
- Oversee specific project building design and development tasks, including programming, reports, drawings, calculations, cost estimates, and specifications.
- Oversee and lead the production of architectural drawings and models.
- Oversee and guide design conception, design detailing and production of presentation materials.
- Oversee development of construction documents and follow up with design work as drawings and construction progress.
- Support other architects to ensure design continuity.
- Liaise with clients and respond to client questions and comments, review submittals, and help to provide clarifications.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of design submissions, reports, contract documents, etc. and guide and mentor staff towards individual quality control
- Act as an expert resource within discipline for delivery requirements, e.g. reports, studies, drawings, etc.
- Review and understand drawings prepared by other disciplines and coordinate and communicate with those disciplines to ensure project documents are prepared to RVAA’s standards.
- Support and guide resolution of any construction and site issues related to the Architectural design.
- Oversee and support the maintaining and managing of project documentation related architectural design and contract administration.
- Be knowledgeable in and perform effective analysis of applicable building codes, by-laws and other regulations and technical documents / reports to which a project may be subject.
- Supervise, coordinate and review the work of other architects, intern architects, designers Revit, CADD, renderings programs technicians to ensure that the architectural design is sound, conforms to codes, standards and regulations, is coordinated with other disciplines and that any revisions are implemented, to the satisfaction of the clients.
People Level Responsibilities:
- Promote continuous Improvement of design skills of the team on projects, by sharing expert knowledge of current design techniques, building systems, design trends and developments and providing insight, information and recommendation on sector and discipline trends.
- Mentor, inspire and motivate the team; promote collaboration across teams.
- Assist in determining project staffing requirements and help with recruitment of future staff.
- Mentor team member by identifying areas for improvement in their work through teaching and coaching on project work, proposals preparation and business and professional development of the individuals.
- Motivate staff by engaging their creativity and recognizing achievement.
- Role model behaviour and expectations for quality of work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and registration as an Architect with OAA.
- 20 years of progressively responsible experience in Architecture.
- Self-starter with good problem-solving ability.
- Strong ability to develop innovative design concepts to meet functional goals within the project budget.
- Experience with business development and proposal preparation.
- Experience with Revit, CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, 3D visualization SketchUp and other graphic software is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian building codes, standards, zoning ordinances and other applicable regulations.
- Proven experience managing multiple project teams simultaneously, utilizing effective prioritization and time management skills to meet competing deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, clients, subconsultants, and contractors or other authorities having jurisdiction, as required.
- Knowledge of and adherence to professional ethics applying to the practice of architecture.
